Owls usually represent wisdom or knowledge.

Owl represent positive and negative sides.
Owl symbolizes wisdom and prosperity. On the other hand brings death and misfortune.

I once heard that if you see an owl or just heard his hoot it means someone will die.

in most cultures an owl is a symbol of wisdom, so if you are a believer in symbols and myths, seeing an owl should mean you are in for a new level of insight :)

Remember folklore is just a fairy tale. I was told that owls are the Indian sign for death. You are very lucky to have seen one in real life!
