Of course you should. You ever read a scholarly book? Like, for school or anything? Next time you do, pay attention. When the author writes something, he rewords it shortly after, summarizes it, and gives an example. Everyone interprets things differently. You have to speak in such a way that people can understand you.

Some people just don't see what you are trying to say. I know people that way and no matter how I would point things out, they just don't see it that way, so they are going to do it anyway. Give it up and move on if you can.
