Im living in M'sia. My mum in law told me that it is not good to give him nite bath because of the humidity of the weather here. Saying that he might catch cold and stuff like that.

But i think my baby loves nite bath, especially when i give him massage after bathing. He'll straight go to sleep then.

I used to give my sons baths all the time before bed. If you use a soothing soap, like lavender or milk soap, it will help to soothe the baby and help the baby sleep better too.

Children to not catch colds from taking a bath and having wet hair. They catch colds from the germs they catch from those around them and their immune system hasn't fought them because they are newborns, hence they get sick.

Give your baby the bath and do what I do to my mother in law. Tell her you love her but she raised her kids and this is your child and you will do what you see fit for him/her.

Hope this helps!

Until a baby is crawling around and actually getting dirty they do not need daily bathes. This can really dry out their skin, and during the winter I was told by the nurses at a prominent Children's Hospital to not give more than 2 bathes per week to keep them from getting chilled. As long as you are wrapping the baby in a towel as soon as you take them out of the water it is OK, but not more than 2-3 times per week. You can always use lotion and massage them also without giving a bath.

I give my son a bath at night every night and he has never been sick. Just make sure you keep him warm, especially after getting out. Bundle him up really well with two towels. Also, if you can find Johnson and Johnson Bedtime bathwash and lotion, it is supposed to help put the baby to sleep. I don't know for sure if it works, but we use it and our son sleeps very well. Once you get him on a schedule, he will get used to it and expect going to sleep after the bath.

I bath my 4 month old daughter at night (always have done) and don't have any problems it helps her sleep. If he is going to get a cold it more than likely won't be from bathing him at night. Keep doing what you are doing he is your baby not hers and you are doing what you think is best for YOUR baby. Good luck : - )

If you think Baby loves a Nite bath, guess what? He DOES! Just like your in law knew her Son, you know your own baby better than ANYONE.

No truth to what she's saying, raise your child the way you want to.

You should always trust your instincts as his mother. Of course a night time bath is fine for your baby. the key really is that you have a routine that he and you are comfortable with.
Thank your mother in law, tell her that you really love that she is so helpful with your baby, and keep doing what works for you and your child. Remember that your mother in law is a great resource for support, and baby sitting, so you want her help.
None-the-less, you know your baby, and you know what works for you. You may have a baby who needs a little stimulation before he winds down to sleep, and you have found the perfect solution. good for you.

Night baths do exactly what you say: relax him enough to go to sleep. I recommend it to my young moms who are having trouble getting their babies to sleep. I also recommend giving baby solid food (if he is taking it at this young age) with his last bottle about the same time at night. It is cooler in the home and outdoors at that time of day. But you can heat the house or at least the room if it feels too cool for him.

The humidity outside isn't going to effect him inside your house...also that whole "going outside with wet hair makes you sick" think is just an old wives tale and actually has no medical merit.

If your baby likes to take a bath at night and it helps him sleep, go to town-do what's right for you and your little guy!

Mum in Law is misinformed. You know your baby better than anyone, if he loves a nighttime bath and a massage give it to him. It won't hurt him and will probably help him sleep.

A night bath won't hurt your baby, all it'll do is relax your baby. It may even help with a deeper sleep. My baby girl loves have her bath I find she sleeps so much better.
