He said I had his personal gaurantee through the end of the year and I should renew my lease. Then almost half of my group was laid off, me included. Am I entitled to anything legally?

If you renewed the lease in reliance to his statements, he is estopped! He is liable for breach.

Your manager's personal guarantee may have been sincere - but very ill advised. Unless he is directly responsible for the layoffs, he really wasn't in any position to tell you that.
Chalk it up as experience and be a little more skeptical in the future to such "guarantees," - especially in today's labor market.
I seriously doubt that you have any legal recourse. Hopefully, you will find a better job and write this experience off as an opportunity to broaden your horizons.

No, you're not entitled to anything legally, especially if you live in an at-will employment state. Don't keep your expectations high of ANY guarantee ANY of your bosses ever make to you. To them, you're just a number in a book.

You can be fired or laid-off for any reason or no reason at any time. Try to collect unemployment and look for another job.

Did you record the conversation? Were there any witnesses? Did you get it in writing? If not then you are out of luck.
