1943? Perhaps. That was the year that pennies were made of steel instead of copper. A very few (about 12) 1943 copper pennies are known to exist, and those are indeed worth several thousand dollars. Perhaps that is what you are talking about.
Unfortunately, for every genuine coin, there must be hundreds of fakes (the ones I see most are genuine 1948 or 1949 pennies with the last digit in the date altered to look like a 3).
