is it law that a company has to give you lue of notice and pay you

Your employer is required to pay you for whatever period of notice is specified in your contract of employment even if your employer doesn't require you to work the time. If no period of notice is specified in the contract, the statutory notice that you are entitled to will depend upon how long you have been working for the employer.

If you have been sacked they are supposed to pay you for the period of notice required, even if you have been asked to leave the premises immediately.
