because it touches you, and makes you warm. Holds you tight, protects you. It's on your side and on your way, that's where you sit, where you believe you were meant to be discovered...

...holding rare flowers in a tomb.
Great Alice in Chains song. But if you are seriously asking why sand rains down on the singer, then you should probably read the lyrics a little more closely. That's a song about drug addiction.

Wow- amazing how many people have no idea what that means. Cantrell says it's about his relationship with his "one true love"- which is misleading but not technically a lie. I believe this song he wrote about his deceased mother. Which is confusing when u listen to the verse "I want to be inside of you" -I believe this is hinting toword a longing to be with his mother in the way a child is closest with a mother- when he is in her womb. Hence the verse, "bury me softly in this womb". I doubt he ever wanted to make public any clear explanation of subject matter so deep, or something so easily misconstrued. No doubt it would be controversial, adding unneeded stress to an already stressful situation. "Add insult to injury" so to speak. Because there would be a lot of people out there who would say such intimate lyrics are inappropriate for a mother/child relationship. Which is something people would say who had already misunderstood the meaning, and took a few verses out of context.
