So I'm 15 and in high school and your regular A-B student. But ever since about 7 or 8th grade I have changed for the worse. I have resorted to being mean and very blunt to people. I just want to learn how to be nice to people and stuff. I mean I have a lot of friends and all but I'm even mean to them but in a joking way. I am respecftul and all but I just want to be that girl that everyone loves and stuff. And is being blunt a bad trait to have? Its recently gotten worse and worse and I think its why I don't have a boyfriend. The real reason why I'm so mean is because I'm so shy otherwise. I'll talk to my friends but in person and phone it is so hard to start up a convo unless another friend is there and then I'll just put in my 2 cents. So please can someone help me become my own person and become nicer and friendlier and just a better person overall?

It's not nice to conceal shyness by having a defense mechanism as being blunt. Most people who are friendly find bluntness as offensive & arrogant. But there are certain people we should exercise being such to put them back into their right senses. Being politely honest on the other hand, proves to put a soft space in everyone's heart at all times, though. As for you, being witty & all, I think, it's gotten a little way too much to aspire more than what you are. You can't please anyone in any way with your sharp retorts. Be friendly like you used to be, talk in a gentle & kind manner so people will open up & stay loyal to you. Read books, watch movies on relationships so you'll learn how to carry on an interesting conversation. Just be yourself , wear no disguise. That's enough to make you good inside & out.

Being blunt is a great ability to have - but not one to be used on an EVERYDAY basis...

Like MOST things in life - it's all about finding the proper balance. You can be HONEST without being blunt - but a TRUE friend WILL appreciate the fact that you ABLE to be 100% honest with them ;););)
