Boy, are you lucky! I'm a bored 10th grade world history teacher wasting time on the computer. OK!

a. Diaz
b. Ferdinand Magellan
c. Cortez -- what a trickster!
d. Magellan was killed, but one of his ships made it home with a few men still alive.
e. Vasco da Gama
3. A caravel was a ship used by the Portuguese and Spanish. It was a big improvement in design over earlier ships, and could handle the rough ocean waves. That's why they were able to explore farther than people from other countries. The caravels gave them the edge.
8. You really need to look at a map of this.

The triangular trade was a trade route from Europe to Africa and to the Americas. Ships loaded with factory goods sailed to Africa. The stuff was sold to the Africans who gave them slaves as payment. The ship owners took the slaves to the Americas and sold them to the plantation owners for shiploads of sugar and rum made from sugar. They took this to Europe and sold the sugar and rum for factory goods. An so on and so on. You can see how the awful practice of buying and selling people was a main part of this "business deal".
The Amistad was a ship that came from Cuba to the US in 1832. It was carrying some slaves, although it was not a slave ship. It was illegal to bring slaves into the US from Africa then, so the owners told people that the slaves were born in Cuba, which was not true. Because it wasn't a slave ship, the Africans on board had more freedom to move around, which gave them the idea to revolt. One of the men was a brave and smart African man they called Joseph Cinque. He organized their revolt. The captain told them he would take them to Africa, but he lied and took them to New York. The ship was taken by the US Navy and the Africans were taken off to be sold as slaves. Some people considered them just like cargo. However, other people insisted that they were kidnapped people and should be set free. There was a famous court case and the captives were set free. The court case gave hope to many people who wanted to see an end to slavery. It made people think about what they would do if they were taken from their homes and sold as cargo.

If this happens again, read your textbook!!! Hope this made it in time. IFLY2.

See, they just lie to you. You forget all of this stuff when you get out of school. Don't you have a Social Studies book? The answers should be in there. I hear reading helps you learn.
