Did he fight in a war? only WWII! wow, i am shocked.
He is a hero because he led Britain against Germany. as France fell to the Germans and their leaders fled for England, Chuchill had a plan. For one, he knew the Germans would try to get the military bases long before Britain was pulled into the war through the secret alliance with France. Churchill changed England's maps so that they did not include any of their military bases, especially for the air planes. Britain did a lot of damage with their small fleet of airplanes.
i know this is only one example, but trust me when i say he is a hero, and there are totally more examples.

Yes, When Churchill was a young man,he was a n officer who fought in the Boer War in South Africa. But there were those who thought of him as a "Medal Seeker" because he was often reckless and would take on the most dangerous assignments, which was unheard of since he was from a rich family and the aristocracy. He used his military training and his tenacity in his speeches and in his manner when he went on into politics.

The greatest hero of the 20th century, he saved civilization from the Nazis. Had Britain fallen, and Nazi Germany taken over all of Western Europe . . . . Read "The Man In The High Castle" by Philip **** for an alternate-history novel of Japan and Germany triumphant in WW II.
