Is Democracy An Ideology

Most people think that the advantage of Democracy is that, when it works, the people get what they want. Whether what the people want is actually the best thing for them is a separate question.

I personally think there are no advantages, thats why there are no true democracies

For example the united states is a democratic republic which means that people make decisions for us but we get to pick the decision makers.

A true democracy by definition would have to allow every citizen to vote on every issue and that is unrealistic

Besides who's gonna vote on a tax increase even if it is needed to repair some roads.

"Democracy is the tyranny of the mob"-Socrates
Democracy is a direct participation form of government, in which the enfranchised citizens (those allowed to participate) directly debate & pass laws, place or remove office holders or dispense justice.
In the ideal sense, all members of society participate fully & equally, and through common effort, allows for the advancement of all.
"Democracy is the most perfect of all forms of government, because it allows the citizen to excercise the maximum of self restraint"-Peracles
In reality, people are not equal in their ablitlies, ambitions, or motivations, which disallows full &equal participation, but does allow a few to subvert the processes for their own advancement.
Also true democracy becomes unweildy when the society it governs is larger than a few score participants.
"Democracy is the absolute worst form of government ever devised, except for all the others"-Winston Churchill

I personally favor libertarianism, as I believe the freedom of the individual trumps all other ideals. If you think that we should help each other then donate or even work for a charity. If you think that some program or another is good then work towards it. Everything the government controls with exception of police/military/public maintenance should be entirely in the hands of the private sector. This allows people do further their goals without being robbed by each other.

It is a form of government invented by the Greeks.
The earliest democracy in the world began in Athens, in 510 BC. When democracy proved to be successful in Athens, many other city-states chose it for their government too. But most of them allowed even fewer people to vote than Athens did: most of the other city-states only allowed free adult male citizens to vote IF they owned land or owned their own houses (that is, the richer people).
