It's gear shift locks up when I put it into Park. I was sitting in the parking lot today for an hour before we figured out that you had to push something small and long into the Shift Lock Release and it would allow me to put it in drive. Is anybody else experiencing the same problems?

Some times sticky beverages get spilled and make the shift park release stop working when it gets cold outside. After The car warms up it works? There is really no cure other than buying a new shifter. Do you still hear the click when appling the brake? I have used large amounts of windex and glass cleaners sprayed into the floor shifter and compressed air to blow the liquid back out. And some times I am suscessful about 30% of the time.

I had the same thing happen to my 99. I had to replace the entire gear shift lever assembly because the defective safety switch was attached to the assembly and the part was not available separately from GM. The console had to come out and the assembly was bolted to the floorboard of the car. Don't know if this is what is wrong with yours.
