Matt Weiss with the A's .... Bobby Crosby hasn't lived up to the initial hype in Oakland .... Pat Listach in Brewerland ... Gregg Olson in Baltimore ... Jerome Walton in Chicago ... and in the same year (1976, National League co-Rookie of the Years) Butch Metzger in San Diego and Pat Zachry in Cincinnati

Jake Wood, Detroit, 1961. Led the league with 9 triples. Good looking second baseman. Had that rookie year and did the slow fade.

I remember Mark "The Bird" Fydrich, the great Detroit rookie pitcher who was so entertaining as well as unbeatanle as a rookie.
He used to get down on one knee and work on the mound like a hyper-active grounds-keeper.
Mark looked a bit crazy, and maybe he was in a way. He burned out after his great freshman year!
The crazy rookie hurler inspired a crazy Motown hit: "Everybody's talking about the Bird ... about the BIRD, bird, BIRD bird, the Bird!"

Walt Weiss had a long major league career as a solid glove little hit SS, Olsen was a good closer for a few years so I wouldn't call either of these one year wonders. Pat Listash would have been my contribution to this but his name has already been mentioned.

The Bird, Mark Fiderych. He played for the Detriot Tigers in 76. He was awesome, but blew his arm out in September of that year and never recovered.

Joe Charbonneau. He won the ROY award with the Indians in 1980, but played only 70 more games and was out of the majors less than three years later.

i'm reaching into the memory banks so the year and the spelling of the name may be slightly off, but i'd say joe charboneau of the indians might be the biggest roty bust, early 80's, maybe 82 or 83.
