can i just use an ethernet cable to connect 2 laptops and play starcraft through LAN?

Well I don't know about Starcraft because I don't play it, but as long as it has a "Server" function in the game so you can set one PC up as the server, or if it allows a peer to peer LAN configuration, then you can.

Just make sure you get a crossover cable. It will say crossover cable, on the package.

I don't advise it though. I recommend getting two cables, and a cheep little hub or switch. It requires no extra configuration and it will give you better performance.

In theory yes, if the game starcraft supports network play. You will need a crossover cable not a patch and will also need to setup a small network on windows using the Network setup wizard in the control panel.

No, too slow. Use two separate cables to connect your laptops to the hub or router.
