If an isosceles triangle has a hypotenuse, it must be the other two sides which are of equal length. The squares of their lengths must therefore also be equal, and so each of these squares will be half the value of the square of the hypotenuse.
30^2 = 900 and 900/2 = 450, thus the square of each of the other two sides is 450. The square root of 450 is c. 21.2132, therefore the length of each of the other two sides is 21.2132 cm.
I hope this helps, but do please feel free to drop me a line if you'd like to go over this or any aspect of figure-work further.

Since this is an isosceles triangle the the length of each 'leg' is the same/ Let this distance = x. Then by Pythagoras:
30^2 = x^2 + x^2
900 = 2x^2
450 = x^2
x = sq.rt. 450 (only need to consider the positive sq.rt.)
x = 21.2 cm (correct to 3 sig.fig.) Note: don't forget the cm.
OR if the answer is required accurately:
x = sq.rt. 450
x = sq.rt. (2 * 3 * 3 * 5 * 5)
x = 3* 5 * sq.rt (2)
x = 15*sq.rt (2) cm

well a squared + b squared= c squared and you c is 30 cm long.
So first square that so 30 squared is 900.
Now a squared +b squared has to equal 900 and you know they have to be equal since it's an isosceles triangle.
So all you have to do is divide 900 by 2 which gives you 450. So your answer is the squareroot of 450

the pythagorean theorum states that a^2+b^2=c^2, where c is the hypnoteuse.
In your case, the two legs are the same length, so:
x^2+x^2 = 30^2
2x^2 = 900
Divide both sides by 2
x^2 = 450
x= sqrt 450
