If an asteroid were to hit earth, would the whole earth be destroyed or just that part of the earth?

It would depend on the size and speed. An asteroid the size of a garage could destroy a city. Asteroids that would be needed to destroy the Earth (tens of miles in diameter) have not yet been found in any NEO's.

Depends upon the nature of the Asteroid's construction...
Ice and dust, or nickle/iron, or rocky grantie and silicalike material.

Depends upon the mass of the asteroid.

Depends upon where the asteroid hits Earth...just on the edge as a glancing blow, or smack in the middle.

If Hillary Clinton wins the Presidential Election in 2008 we won't be here to worry about it anyhow...

One of the latest theories is the a sizable asteroid did strike the earth and maybe killed the dinosaurs.
As bad as the damage was it didn't destroy the planet itself. It did rearrange things though.
