I am buying a house that has a lot of mold on the roof and I want to clean it without having to pressure wash it and risking damage.

is it mold or algae? algae is common, especially on the north side of the building. you can remove it by using a product called roof reviver. just spray it on and let nature work for you. visit their website at roofreviver.com

I use cheap powdered laundry detergent. Sprinkle it on and if it isn't going to rain lightly water it. It is cheap and works well. It also is not as harmfull to plants, metal etc as bleach. It will also give the shingles a good cleaning.

Bleach will kill it as well as a copper strip along the peak of the roof.

There is a zinc strip you can put on the roof that will help

bleach. seriously bleach will kill anything just give it a little time
