I forgive because i don't want to walk around feeling mean, nasty. not forgiving really makes a person sick depressed mean etc. I forgive so that i can move on . God is a forgiving God so who am I not to forgive ( I forgive but I don't forget) When I forgive I never bring up what the person did I just won't forget .

People forgive, or find excuses to forgive because it is easier than dealing with rejection. Other reasons to forgive are, that someone made a mistake, or you are forced to correspond with that person on a daily basis and there is no way of getting around it. Most people never truly forgive, they only say they do, if you truly forgive, you have forgotten what has happened and have put your trust back into the individual that wronged you. If you haven't done this then you haven't forgiven. I forgive mistakes, very rarely do I forgive anything else. ;-)

In simple terms,by forgiving others we are actually doing ourselves a favor. It saves us from many negative effects and consequent suffering. It makes hardly any difference to the person forgiven or not but we help ourselves in a big way.Leaving aside any religious teachings or even ethics,'let bygones be bygones 'is a positive step towards self preservation and our peace of mind.

I ask myself, "What would I rather? To be angry at this person and stay miserable and not enjoy their company... or be friends and be happy?"
The answer is so obvious to me. And I just go with it.
I refuse to stay angry over a petty argument for more than a day, less if possible. I will try and sort it out as quick as possible, and try to make sure we are both happy again.
I am so set in this, I don't think I could hold a grudge if I tried. To me they seem so pointless and sometimes immature, and they can lead to bitterness.
Someone in my extended family is like this... he is such a bitter person now because of all the stupid little grudges he holds (eg years ago someone joking around with him called him a "dog"). Now he has hurt my family so much with all the stupid lies and bitterness he holds.
Forgiveness is so much better.

Because holding a grudge makes for a very angry, unhealthy life.

Because keeping it inside and hold it against that person will make you bitter and angry and it will pretty much ruin your life!
