I'm going to Poland around Christmas time and I am wondering if taking a train from Katowice,Poland to any part of Switzerland is doable? Is it a long trip and expensive?

The trip would be about 17 to 19 hours, and you'd need to change trains a couple of times.
One way to go is a 5 hour train from Katowice to Vienna, that leaves Kat. at about 2.30 pm, arrives 5 hous later, then take the night train from Viennna to Zurich.
Other trains go through Berlin or Poznan and Koln to Basel.
It won't be cheap, but if you take the night train and get a couchette, you save one night's hotel.
