My family always waited till the day after Thanksgiving, but is that necessary? I want to put it up now.

When do you do it?

Usually we put the decorations up right after Thanksgiving. However, we put up so much all over the house that it takes weeks to get it all done. This year we decided to start right after Halloween (obviously we use artificial trees). Hopefully this will make December less hectic. (We still have some autumn/Thanksgiving decorations, which we'll take down after Thanksgiving.) I have one tree up in the family room, and we are planning more decorations beforehand. Then we are going to "hide" them in some way (perhaps by hanging an autumn-colored curtain in front of them).

I don't believe there is a wrong way to do it. You decorate when you want to decorate.

You put it up when YOU want to. Your house, your rules. Don't pay attention to naysayers.

I used to have a fiber optic tree that went up every year on Nov 1 and came down January 6 which is the end of Yule. Haven't been able to find a replacement yet so I don't have anything up at the moment. This year we're doing a real tree and that won't go up until day after Thanksgiving.

I decorate the house and put up the tree the weekend of Thanksgiving. Then on New Years day it all comes down. There are no right or wrong answers to your question. Do whatever makes you feel happy. I watch Christmas movies in July and listen to Christmas music Cd's in the car. Don't let others spoil your fun, enjoy!!

I do it after Thanksgiving and it comes down New Year's day.

You can put it up whenever you want. There are no rules about when to put up your tree.

whenever you want to. my mom likes to put it up around Nov 15 lol that was her 'earliest time'. She does it before Thanksgiving cause we don't really have decorations for Thanksgiving. Whenever you have available time. It's not weird if you put it up now.

do it when you feel the holiday spirit surging! go ahead and put it up now. but if it's a real tree remember to take good care of it or it may dry out and fall apart and not make it to christmas.
