Growing up we only opened presents on Christmas morning, because you had to wait for Santa to arrive & put them out. Even once I was in college we continued to do that because my brother is 10 years younger than I am.
When I got married, my husband & I decided to open one gift one Christmas Eve, and then open the others on Christmas morning. The problem was we never wanted to stop at just one, but not opening presents on Christmas just feels weird.
This year the tradition will change again. Now that we have a child, the tree will be decorated before Christmas Eve, but we won't do presents until Christmas morning. Since the baby will only be 8 weeks old, its possible that morning would come any time between 4am - 1pm depending on how we are all sleeping!

The family from my side (my parents/siblings/their kids/grandparents) do Christmas on Christmas Eve.
We do Christmas with my husbands family the day of Christmas (late afternoon).
My kids do not get to open a gift from me or hubby on Christmas eve because they get so many gifts from everyone else on Christmas Eve.
Our family (me/hubby/2 kids) get up around 5:30 or 6:00 am and open presents on Christmas. I hope they sleep in till 7:00 am this year, though! Oh please.. One can dream....

We open everything on Christmas Eve and I hate it. I'd much prefer to wait until Christmas morning.

We always open a little gift on christmas eve, just to get us in the spirit, but still saving the best gifts for christmas morning.
One year we did the opposite, opening all but one gift on christmas eve. I think it was the year my brother and I begged them so much that they finally gave in! Muhahahaha!

We have a lot of family here so we spend Christmas eve with my immediate family and Christmas day with my husband's family. We have so many family members that we either draw names or have a "White Elephant" game where everyone brings one gift and everyone ends up with one gift. It's fun and not so expensive.
