For the most part no. But, with the thermo stuck open the engine will prob not get to the 'correct' operating temp. This should add more fuel to the mixture if its fuel injected. Thus your gas mileage may suffer a bit, and may cause higher exhuast temps.... but you should be AOK

And whomever said you could overheat is forgetting one thing. The thermostate is wide open, not missing!! With it open it still regulates the amount of fluid flow, so you will not overheat the car

its fine ,just warm it up for ten minutes idling,in park,at this point if you live in a temperate zone a thermostat is redundant,Old cars [AND TRUCKS] used a radiator air blocking system that reduced the radiators capacity to cool[try this take cardb oard and block off some of capacity of radiator say one third, and see if this causes heat to rise,[coolant temp],and it was a lucky thing it stuck open,And you noticed it[By not doing as it did always,]? AND its good you didnt have a idiot lite! And that you monitor your guages!

What to do relies upon on the ordinary difficulty of the automobile in question. You state the automobile is worth 7k. i anticipate it somewhat is from kelly or edmunds in step with mileage and difficulty. If the vehicle would have a 7k fee with the engine repaired, then you definately would desire to pass forward and do it. for the reason which you have 3k in financing nevertheless on it, you would be no longer ordinary pressed to roll that right into a sparkling automobile. Japan has strict automobile regulations that bring about engines with 40-60k miles on them to get replaced. The engines are then rebuilt and shipped out of japan, many to the U. S.. because of this, engine substitute is frequently extra low value than engine restoration. although you will desire to get an estimate on your modern engine. That it has seized is exceedingly ordinary fact and would recommend a large form of circumstances. working example, in case you do no longer understand automobiles properly and you are trying to instruct over the engine and it fails, it ought to be the starter on my own, an exceptionally seized engine will result interior the lack to instruct the piston positions. A mechanic can examine for that. on the comparable time, you will desire to have the transmission checked and universal wellbeing of the vehicle desperate. All are aspects in going forward with any maintenance. A ordinary rule is by no skill spend better than one million/2 the resale fee. So make certain your 7k valuation is right in step with all different aspects first and in case you will get the engine repaired or replaced for decrease than 3.5k it somewhat is likely worth it, exceedingly in case you intend to then shop utilising it for some extra years.

Probably. It will run a bit too cold, which often makes gas mileage suffer and can add a little bit more wear and tear. But as long as your temperature gauge doesn't show any signs of overheating, you should be fine.

The thermostat regulates coolant flow rate through the radiator. without the thermostat the coolant circulates too rapidly through the radiator to lose appreciable heat. Depending on the time involved during your commute I fear you may experience severe overheating.
