I you mean the tablet or flakes used to chlorinate a pool it is usually calcium hypochlorite (however, sometimes other materials that release chlorine on contact with water are used).

Calcium hypochlorite is: Ca(OCl)2

You have several choices depending on the size of the pool. Large pools can use chlorine gas
(Cl2). Not-so-large pools can use NaOCl solution or Ca(OCl)2 powder, often sold as a mixture with CaCO3. Smaller pools use bleach, which is diluted NaOCl solution.
