It lead us to the brink of WW 3 by Russia bringing Nuclear Missles into Cuba in 1963 90 miles from the US Coastline. It was avoided by our Navies Blockade of Cuba and President Kennedy out bluffing Premier Kruschev!!!!

the cold war, the two superpowers were basically in a race against each other to make more weapons than the other, till it basically destroyed the USSR. the USSR knew at the end that its people didn't have the basic necessities for life, and that the people would revolt so the USSR gave up, but the USSR still acted to late and the super power dissolved into many countries, most notably Russia

The very truthful answer was that neither country wanted war.

The Government of the United States and the Soviet Union negotiated regularly to control the growth of nuclear weapons and other WMD's and they did it in the idea that each would honor the agreements.

It wasn't until the Reagan Years that the US began to rattle the saber in an aggressive way. And by that time the Soviets were almost bankrupt.

that's time for something of the international to make it very sparkling to GW that he's on his own from right here and that we could like not extra of his ideal wing lunacy. you may think of the deaths of 1000's of hundreds of Iraqis and hundreds of his international places youthful adult ladies and men could positioned a supply as much as his insanity and that the yankee human beings could say sufficient. it rather is yet another case the place the risk of nuclear war is getting used to hide yet another schedule because of the fact whether that they had the ability they could ought to comprehend that it may be suicide to to apply or maybe threaten it and if it became chanced on that they had offered terrorists that could have an analogous result. This business enterprise of attacking different international places on the pretext of combatting terrorism is going to bring about WW3 till sanity is permitted to prevail. My very final element is that if one united states has atomic weapons, why shouldn't each and all the others? we would desire to consistently be practising doing away with all of them as quickly as that's a danger. We already have primary weapons, and the potential to furnish them, that could make WW2 appear as if a minor skirmish.

We were the more wealthy nation, and could spend much more on new weapons programs.

Under Reagen, such programs were pushed to the limit, and as a result the walls of Communism in Europe weren't broken thru and destroyed, they just simply collapsed.
