Proud to be an American?
Maybe a hundred years ago. What has been done by the government in our name has been awful. From US sponsored government coups in other Democratic countries, to assassinations, to supplying arms to terrorists, to installing dictatorships, to the North American Union, and NAFTA, to the patriot act, to the illegal invasion in Iraq.
Out of 190 countries on planet Earth, the USA has military bases in 130 of them.
We are using our military as a aggression tool to spread "democracy" or should I say "globalization".
Our currency is falling dramatically as other countries switch to other currency such as the EURO and YIN. The gig is up!
We are spending money than we have, we are in debt to other countries.
It is time to take America back. Oust the corporate stooges and the military industrial complex. It was what Eisenhower warned us about in his farewell speech.
I love and proud of the ideals America stands for. I do not love or I'm proud of what America has become.

Well i am happy to be in a free country, but not very many people understand what free means when it comes to our free country. But i am not happy when it comes to what most people think of when someone says "America" If i could change one thing about our country i would want to bring back pride. Look at history it used to mean something when you say i am an American. Our founding fathers risked their lives by signing the Declaration of Independence and during world war two the nation fought that war not just the soldiers. So one thing i could wish is that people in America could have that pride that people had 50,100,200 years ago when it meant something to be an American. So yes i am very, very proud to be american

I don't belong to a landmass.
I am proud to live in America because of the wonderful opportunities and memories I have been presented with throughout my life, but I am not blindly proud of our government system and culture.
No, we do not live in a free country. Read "Bartleby" by Herman Melville.
No, I am not proud of all the things our country has done in the world, not by a long, long, long shot. We've done some that I support - entering World War II for example, which is quite clear in my mind anyhow. And then again, what about Darfur? What about World War I? The Vietnam War? What about in our own living rooms, the news from Iraq being censored and tampered with so that we, the general public, may live in a blonde-wigged haven which always smells like fresh bread and springtime so that we forget what is even going on?
My country stands for standing for things. My country stands for peace for some people and war for others and for still others, these are the same things. It's all a wonderful melting fondue. It's all relative. My country, MY country stands for old book smell and crinkly pages of thumb-worn dictionaries, for last period journalism class and how it makes my heart flare and bubble with the opportunities, the opportunities of this goddamn young and thinking people; my country stands for not sleeping when not tired, for smashing alarm clocks and replacing them with internal ones, for Amnesty International and the Save Darfur Coalition, for rain that tastes like vanilla bean ice cream and not only because of the delirium that hunger brings about; my country stands for beauty and my country stands for choice.
I am proud of the people who call themselves Americans and identify with humanity at the same time, while making a difference extinguishing worldwide turmoil and poverty. Then again, I am proud of Arabians and Nigerians and Australians and Brazilians who do the same thing.
I would probably just ask everyone to let their guards down a little bit, and let some thinking flow back in.

I am proud to be an American. We have room for improvement, like eliminating the income tax and converting to a sales tax, "Fair Tax bill", but we are still the greatest country on earth.
The Fair tax act would do wonders to stimulate our economy by enhancing savings and giving people an incenive to produce. The Income Tax system does neither.
We have a good system. That is why we attract so many illegal immigrants. I don't see people fighting to leave the country, they fight to get in. Contrary to the liberal politicians this country is not the cause of the unrest in the world, we show up when other people need help, compare the tsunami to Katrina. And no we are not truly free, but we are much freer than other countries.

No, I'm not proud. Even if I thought this country was something to be proud OF, I wouldn't be responsible for it being that way. I just happened to be born here 28 years ago, and I haven't done anything of importance.
If I could change one thing, it would be a toss up between getting this country up to the level of the rest of the developed world with regard to foreign policy, environmentalism, education, crime prevention and ending poverty. Why must we lag behind Europe? What do they have that we don't?

Yes to all.
1 thing I could change?
I would make a law that stated that anyone who wasn't proud has to move to a country like Iran and live there for 1 year to see if they were smart enough to understand why this nation is so great.

Very proud to live in country that had JFK as leader and allowed Martin Luther King to achieve as much as he did, and almost had Bobby Kennedy as it's leader.

I served my Country for 20 years. I have never stopped being proud to be an American. I do note that the big problem we have, illegal immigration is because people are trying to come here and very few want to get away. When people are risking their lives to enter, we must be doing something right.

Yes, I am proud to be an American.
If I could change just one thing, I would probably go back and have Saddam removed during the first Iraq war.

Unions are superseded. They served a objective as quickly as, yet are no longer something extra now than merely yet another political foyer. don't get me incorrect, there are stunning human beings on the community point in unions, yet there is likewise a lot of inefficiencies and waste that is going on interior a business enterprise because of the fact of unions shops. And the union thugs on the authentic are the worst. they are as corrupt as any baby-kisser. My aunt used to stay in DC in a residence complicated the place various senior union leaders lived. They have been consistently sitting around the pool bragging approximately their existence style, who they knew and what they might stress politicians to do. that they had communicate approximately it being time for yet another strike someplace... just to teach individuals how a lot capacity they wielded... no longer because of the fact it became rather necessary. while decrease point union individuals got here in, the leaders could be bitching and griping approximately having to teach the "rubes" around. they could communicate approximately them fantastically a lot the way you're speaking approximately Republicans... in different words demeaning and with actual NO admire. base line: What Conservatives HATE approximately unions is how they are able to (and are) ruining this united states's agencies for the sake of preserving directly to their capacity.
