In mitosis and meiosis, when do synapsis and crossing over occur?

I think crossing over for meiosis occurs very early in the prophase 1 stage. But I need the other three parts of the question.

Remember that synapsis and crossing over NEVER occurs in mitosis. Synapsis and crossing over is to create variation, so as to prevent offsprings from being genetically and physically identical. For mitosis, you want your cells to each be genetically identical, so as to keep the functions in your body normal. You definitely do not want your cell to be different each other and cause diseases like cancer etc. It is in meiosis that variation occurs, so as to create variation, for survivial of fittest, due to natural selection etc., and I am sure that it would be scary for 10 billion people to look EXACTLY the same. Synapsis and crossing over occurs during the G2 phase of cell division. When the pair of homologous chromosomes arrange themselves side by side during prophase 1, which is called a bivalent. Take note that synapsis only occurs in prophase 1 in meiosis. Crossing over also only occurs in prophase 1, where the two chromatids of each chromosome overlap each other and swap genetic material.
