this wall has to be cleaned with an acid solution and not any type of soap or pressure washer. This is a necessary evil to do, but is the only thing that will remove any efflourescence and prep the wall properly. Then patch any holes and cracks with a hydraulic cement. Top coat with 2 coats Drylok latex base masonry waterproofer. 10 year warranty on bare masonry. www.ugl.com/drylok

You need to find out what caused the water damage before you do anything to the wall. Is the wall still wet? Did the water come from outside? You may need to fix the drainage around your house. Once you determine what caused the damage and correct the problem, then you can use DryLock which is an excellent product.

NEEDED! It is a question of how much money are you willing to throw away if a long rainy season comes and you get water for the first time. How much are you spending on finishing the basement? My parents bought their house from people who had never had water in the 3 years they were in the house, had the basement finished nicely, and the first year we were in the house it flooded 3 inches. There is a sump pump as well - nicely put at the highest point in the cellar. Everything was ruined. They had even had mushrooms growing out of the concrete floor at one point. It was a miserable part of my childhood having to shop vac the floor every spring to get rid of the water. As adults, my husband and I finally went back and used the Dry Loc on the basement and they have not had any more problems. In our own house, it was one of the very first things we did when we moved in because I never want to deal with that again. As the old saying goes - and ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!!!

Cinder block can have a lot of cracks, but try Dry Lock. It's a kind of paint, Walmart has it. Do two coats. Then if you want to paint it, cover it with KILZ (Walmart has it too), it covers any stains that bleed thru, and then paint over it.

if you are getting so much water that it is damaging your blocks on the inside , i would look at the outside of the wall to stop the problems...dig up and waterproof the outside...

I agree about the Dryloc but make sure you do 2 coats and don't spread it too thin. I've used it my basement and it's amazing.
