Blah...may I just say that I feel that this is a rather redundant question. Shouldn't the answer be that we should all be happy regardless of anything else?
If I was single, I'm positive that the answer would be that my happiness would be what matters.
Since I'm not altogether single right now, I'd say that we both should be happy
BUT, if he's happy and I'm not, that would pose a major problem!
ok, ok...so it matter that *I'm* happy!
Happy now? ;)

The happiness of others. Because for one im usually happy when they are, and there happiness is more important than mine.

My happiness. Only then can I help someone achieve happiness for themselves.
It's along the line of you can't truly love someone else if you don't love yourself. The same applies to happiness.
I know a lot of people who are happy, even though I'm not because of wife's death. Does that make them selfish, or non-caring? -- Of course not.

When you love someone, you get happiness from knowing they are happy. It can be that special someone, your children or family and friends. I know that for me, making someone else happy is what makes me happy. It's knowing I could do something to brighten their day that makes it worth doing.
