Seeing as it's just around the corner, Thanksgiving would be my first guess.

She wrote letters to every branch of the government to have Thanksgiving pronounced a national holiday.

Abraham Lincoln finally did so, though I can't remember in which year. FDR, in 1941, tried to monkey around with the date so that the Christmas Shopping season could be extended. Public backlash made him put it right back to the last Thursday of November. That was the Thanksgiving right before Pearl Harbor.

Nope, didn't look even a little bit of that up.
