I live in an area with huge blackbird populations during the fall. I have been part of massive shooting campaigns in order to reduce the populations. I have never, though, seen them eat acorns. Today I was outside underneath an oak tree as a flock of them were eating on the acorns. It was raining acorn fragments all over the place. I have never seen them go for acorns. Is this something new?

Yes, Blackbirds fly with Grackles and Starlings (members of the same family) and scientists have known this info for awhile. They eat grains and fruits as well and do millions of $ in damage yearly. I am an avid birdwatcher.
