An irritating dumb looking gape in between sentences which looks quite effeminate in fact ? Is it a nervous habit ? Is he gay?

Gay or not, he is married with kids and he is very intelligent. Substance is what matters. Something tells me he is in no danger of losing his job to you.

I would imagine it's a trait he's picked up in his speech developmentally as a child - and this has remained into adult hood.

Many people when speaking publically have a certain 'thing' they do, but usually the only ones we 'see' are people who stammer/stutter.

Yet if you look closely, many people (including politicians) have little 'ticks' like Gordon Brown.

The most classic one is an 'eyelid flutter' that Anne Widdecombe does (to aid her concentration).

Another is the Tony Blair obessive (almost Pope like) outward turned hands, an open 'gesture' (jesus like?!) when it doesn't need to be there at all. If you watch, Blair does this nearly all the time, in all speech.

So I guess Gordon Brown's is the same. The jaw 'gape' is an aid to concentration, a momentary 'pause' to gather thought.

Maybe it came from having a father who beat him if he spoke out of turn. So there is a 'mouth' movement, but no words?

Actually he's a slightly defective android that needs to go back to the factory for some adjustments. Apart from the jaw problem you will have noticed that he keeps repeating himself, particularly when he talks about his policies and his vision for the future.

He also seems to have a problem with the mathematical part of his 'brain'. It is evident that for some time now, he has only been able to add and multiply. His ability to divide and subtract seems to be totally defunct, particularly in relation to taxation.

I suspect it is a physical defect that is more obvious at certain times. Like the shaking of his right hand I wonder whether it is more apparent when he is nervous or angry.
There is no way Gordon Brown is gay.

No, he's Prime Minister. He should try to correct the habit though.

Yeaaah good question I always think he looks like he's getting a bit of polo mint out of one of his molars with his tongue when he's talking

It's because he's annoyed so many people that they have broken his jaw and they can't fix it!
