If the marriage vows inspire you both to behave better, then it could be wiped clean. As long as both of you agree to let the past be past, and never bring up old baggage again. But you have to work at it. Whatever you both did to each other, could happen again if you don't try to act better from now on.

It all depends on how the two of you act. If you always put the other first and resist the temptation toward selfishness that we all have, then your slate can be wiped clean. Marriage is more than just living together and being "legitimate." It works best when you always think of the other person's feelings, likes and dislikes, and needs ahead of yours. As long as both of you do that, you will each be fulfilled and you'll avoid the resentment that can creep into marriage when you continue to think of yourself as autonomous. Once you're married, you're not just you--you are both part of one relationship, like you are one person. It won't always be easy, and I guarantee you will both have moments where the past rears up and you're tempted to hold a grudge or point fingers, but you need to resist it, put it far out of your mind, and focus on the present. You can't change the past. You CAN make every day in the present count toward a great, lasting marriage. Congratulations and best wishes to you both!

Good gracious, no! Whatever those things you did to each other in the past are, the "slate" ONLY gets wiped clean through continued effort and commitment; marriage doesn't mean squat. What you guys did is what you did, and it will never go away.

Congrats. Getting married is the beginning of your new life as a united couple, yes. However, it most definitely does not erase your past. Your past is what makes you who you are! It is the beginning of experiencing your past, present and future together. In some cases your past does come back to haunt you, but that's partly why you have a partner to help eachother deal with it, live in the present and look forward to your future, together.
