First of all sweetness, it must be legally changed before you can just go and put them together because you like it. When your parents named you, it because your legalized name, and you can't do anything with it legally until you are of legal age, which is normally 18 years of age. When you turn 18, you can then change your name to KileyMarie and do whatever you like that turns you on with your name, but if you are underage at the moment, you will have to stick it out until then! ... It is quite cute together though!

Well ... it is your legal name, right? Kiley Marie Smith.

If that's the case, then there's no legal change required to make this so. I'm Jane Verity, but I'm known as J. Verity. The odd government agency or insurance provider will insist on listing me as Jane V., but I correct any human being that I speak with or meet.

Likewise, James' parents don't have to pester the school board to let him be known as Jim; ditto Elizabeth as Liz or Andrew Joseph as AJ.

I'd wait for the start of the new school year, and politely - very politely - inform all of your teachers that you're Kiley Marie. Sign your schoolwork this way, and with some time, Kiley Marie you will be.

Now I must say that it will never be a perfect solution. And you have to decide how much you want to push the issue. Most people get their names *shortened* in casual use. I can't tolerate being called Veri, but I've grown to like Vee.

In the end, my dear uncle - J. Stephen, BTW - summed it up this way during my Jane V. to J. Verity transition - "People have the right to be called what they want to be called. It's the simplest sign of respect we can extend to each other."

So hang in there, Kiley Marie. It might take a few years, but sooner or later, you'll be who you already are. ;)

Since it isn't your legal name, I'm fairly certain it can't be put onto the roll call or on other school documents. You can always try to beg your teachers to call you that. Most will give in for something reasonable like that.

If they won't, there's not a heck of a lot you can do at the moment. When you are of age, if you still want your name on legal documents to be the combination, you can legally change it. It doesn't cost that much, and you'd just do it at your town hall.

It's a pretty name...I suggest you just introduce yourself as Kiley-Marie and see how it goes...as for the teachers, you are probably going to have to get it done legally and that is an expensive pain.

Double names are fairly common in many regions, and often they ARE simply the first and middle names used together. Nothing more "official" required. So yes ... if you'd like to begin using both on a daily basis, simply be sure to consistently use both on school documents, medical forms, etc. Shouldn't be very problematic. ;)

Well your avatar says Roxie I say you go for that.
lol jk
Um, dood thats so weird because usually teachers call
you by what you prefer.
I mean Hi I am Jacqueline <--thats my actual name
But my Teachers always asked me if I rather them call me Jackie -I say "NO" please call me Jacqueline after all that is my actual name. I like to keep it real.
So maybe you can ask your teacher if he/she can call you by that...Normally they'd do it .

:)

Tell your parents to call the school to change it on roll call, but I wouldn't change it legally.

Don't you want to keep your actual birth/birth certicficate name?

No unless you change your first and middle name.

I don't see why not. At most you might need a parent to approve it, but it's just a matter of a piece of paper.
