Air and ground.
It may travel by ground even if you send it by their next day air service.
Whatever gets it there best.

it depens where its coming from and where it going
and how its ship (mostly if its come from new York to Los Angeles then it be via air if you chose fedex express
but its sent via fedex ground (it doesnt use any aircraft
(unless sent to hawaii)
but if the shipmet is comnin from a negiboor state
(say Neveda) it might go air it might go Ground (even express)

They use aircraft.Everything goes to Memphis,Tenn and from there all across the country.
