I am thinking of getting my hubsand a electric razor for Christmas. He has never had one. He has always used a regular razor. Would this be a good thing to get him? What is a good one to get him under 100 bucks?

Electric razors vary in quality the way they vary in price. I use a Norelco Spectra Smart Touch 9190XL by Phillips.

It is not under $100, but if he is going from a conventional razor to electric, you will want to spend the extra $$ as this is the closest electric I have ever used. It is a couple of years old, so the model number may be different. You can expect to pay 200 for them.

It takes a while to train your face to an electric razor. Electrics pull the whiskers and then cut them at the skin. Cheap razors pull too hard, or do not cut close enough. If he likes a very smooth shave, then he will not like a cheap electric shave. If, however, he likes stubble and shadow (at 8 am), then an electric is okay for him.

That being said, the Spectra Close Shave can get as smooth as a blade - and that is a hard claim to back up with an electric.

Do not compromise on quality because of price. You really do get what you pay for.

(I had a Remington back when the fellow liked them so much, he bought the company and it does not compare to the Norelco).

Electric razors are not good enough in quality if you spend little for them. That's actually one item I know of where it does make a difference to pay more. That being said, I would go instead with a gift of a classic shaving gift. Go to this website "classic shaving.com". There are a number of high quality items to choose from, plus they are different and unique. Take a look and see if there's anything that catches your eye.

I personally do not like electric razors.

A wet shave is much nicer with a blade. Don't get him an electric razor unless he has suggested one as it may be an appreciated but unused gift.

Make sure that's not all you get him. I'd hate to get just a razor.
