Happiness is a choice you make for yourself. No one can give it and no one can take it away. You choose how to view your life and circumstances. For every head on a quarter there is a tale. Just because you can not see the tale does not mean its not there.

Its your choice to look at the otherside of the coin or not.

IMO, happiness is the feeling of inner peace you have when you are OK with who you are... and with the decisions you make.

We can choose to be happy or not; it depends upon each person. (Many times we prefer to see the glass half-empty rather than half-full; so I guess attitude is very important.)

(( Also...Many people feel that they would be happy if they had a lot of money. BUT...Although money can buy many material things; but it can never buy true love, true friends, health or happiness. )) Think of greek tycoon Aristotle Onassis and his millions...He lost his only male son in an accident; his surviving daughter was filthy rich and she OD'd and was always miserable....

I choose happiness, health and love over money any time.

It was easy to be happy when life was really good...travel...good jobs...new cars...new house...family....etc

BUT....
True happiness hit me when I went through chemo, all my hair fell out, I was scarred and my energy gone and I felt terrible until I realized how lucky I was that my husband still loved me the same as the day we got married.

A slice of good cheese, a gloss of god scotch and spending time with the ones you love. That's my definition anyway. It's relative.

Or if you prefer a more formal definition:
- state of well-being characterized by emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy
- emotions experienced when in a state of well-being

Eleanor Roosevelt said that happiness is a by-product, not a goal in itself. In other words happiness is not something you can acquire or go after, it is something you get as a result of something happening in your life, or something you've done in your life, that is satisfying, meaningful, and beneficial.
