1) There would be no series if the boat got fixed

2) He was a scientist not an engineer or mechanic

3) Perhaps he did know how... But wanted to stay stranded as a long vacation from the pressures of his tedious work environment. Plus, he got to be stranded with Ginger and Mary-Ann, not the usual sorts of girls one meets in his line of work.

This is probably one of the oldest questions around! Lol.... Maybe we should ask the Professor..... But we'd probably get some complicated answer full of big words like calibration and such. Just look at it this way..... If he had, our afternoons after school would've been a little bit more boring than they were! Yep, I'm dating myself..... vbg

A question that has always baffled me. I guess the professor was maybe a electrical engineer and not a mechanical engineer.

Everyone in that show was kind of silly, where did Ginger get her makeup every day? Who did her hair? And I can go on and on.
