If its summer and its hot, then the blanket isn't needed for warmth. However, you may want to use it as protection from the sun. The age at which you can use sunscreen on a baby seems to vary by doctor, but Parent's Magazine said as young as 3 months old. Try avoiding the sun between 10am and 3pm when the sun's rays are the strongest. You can also find a good shade tree to sit under, or use an umbrella.

I wouldn't use a blanket. The general rule is to dress your baby as you would dress. If it is hot then they don't need a blanket if they are wearing clothes that are suited for the summer. I live in South Texas and I never used a blanket on my kids because they don't need one when it is hot even at one month.

Babies are supposed to have one more layer of clothing than you have. But if it is 90 degrees, babies should not be outside or covered up. A baby should not be in the sun before six months old. Ask any doctor. A onesie should be enough in like 85 degree weather with no socks. Be prepared though. Air conditioning can give an newborn a real bad cold.

with my first baby, I would have said to always cover it. Now with my 4 month old, I think he has been covered about 10 times, lol. He is just as healthy as my daughter.
