If they're getting evicted, then they need to do the right thing and move out before it comes to going to court. The last thing they want is to have the sheriff come to their house and remove everything and put it on their front yard if they don't move out within the time limit. If they got evicted, then it's probably because they didn't pay rent or they trashed the place. Having kids has nothing to do with this. If they broke the rules they agreed to, then the lanlord has every right to evict them.

Doesn't matter if they have kids; they have to pay the rent or they can't stay there.

Yes, it is a court proceeding. When they are served, they have 3 days to respond.
