Ask the seller if you can pay for their listing fees, (usually like 2.00), and maybe they will remove you as a bidder. Explain it was an accident and you didn't know what you were doing. If the seller refuses, just come clean with your mom. $40 may seem like a lot, but maybe your mom will let you do chores to make up for it, and then you can sell it yourself on ebay! Good luck!

Be honest with the seller...

...Kindly ask the seller if he/she will sell the item to the second highest bidder. If your bid was like, a dollar above the next highest bid, they may not a problem with it.

I've received numerous "second chance" offers from sellers, when the transactions with the winning bidder fell through. So this kind of thing happens.

This is a classic case of honesty being the best policy. You're only asking for grief if you're not up front with the seller. If the seller demands the money, then suck it up and tell your mom. She may get mad at you, but c'mon, it's just 40 bucks.

Hi :) you could write to the eBay seller and ask them if you could withdraw! or you could go to the contact forum on eBay and send them a email! have you tried talking to someone in the chat forum at eBay?
