Several reputable sources said the reason was that Colbert would take away votes from Obama because Colbert's supporters are the same basic group as Obama's supporters. So what does this say about Obama, his supporters and the likelihood that he will even come close to being nominated?

It says to me that B.O. is worried about a comedian drawing more votes than he will and that his supporters use Comedy Central as their main sources of news.

But his fear is warranted, look at what happened with Perot running as a third party candidate, he draw away votes from George H. Bush and we got stuck with Slick Willy.

A lot of young people like Obama, and a lot of young people like Colbert, so who knows, it could have possibly had some effect, just enough to screw him over, like Nader took enough votes from Gore in 2000. But I think the Democratic primary will likely be over before SC.

You're missing the point! The clowns are not there too take the place of the ringmaster, they're there too distract the crowd while he introduces the next act. Colbert is a self proclaimed clown, and a pretty cheesy one at that!

Colbert was just being funny. I can't believe anyone thought he was a serious threat.
