I'm wondering what life is like after being convicted and serving punishment for a 2nd time misdemeaner DUI ? Do most people lose their job and if so is there any hope to get another decent job. Can you rent an apartment, go to college or get a loan. Is it on your credit report?

Yes, my life is astoundingly normal these days. Never lost a job although there were repercussions during the period immediately after. DUI has nothing whatsoever to do with your credit. Car insurance was high for a while.

In Canada, you would most likely get off with a fine of under $1000 and a license suspension of six months. That's assuming no other incidents (accident, speeding etc.) were accompanying the first offence DUI.

Assuming you stop drinking and driving, then you can lead a normal life. If your job is related to driving or if you spend time in jail and miss work, then you will probably lose your job. Otherwise, who cares? As long as you do not drink anymore, who cares? It is a non-issue. You can rent an apartment, get a job, go to college, etc.

However, there is a stigma attached to drunk driving, especially if you've had more than one DUI. Most people understand one because most people have done it. However, once you have the second, people think you are an alcoholic, and they may be right. There is a way to get past that stigma. First, join AA and stop drinking. (If you can't do that, then you probably have a problem and should be in AA.) Second, in any job interview, be open, thell them about it, and also tell them you are now in AA and that you stopped drinking. It will make the job interviewer pause, but it will also show that you are not hiding anything and that you took steps to fix your life.

It should be ok. No one should lose their job; it's just a misdemeanor. I don't think it's on your credit report but a criminal background check will show it. After 3 years see if you can get them expunged. Depends on what kind of job you want, if it will matter or not.
