Go to the Art Museuum or the Zoo for free. You do have to pay to park at the Zoo, but the rest is mostly free. The train and the children's zoo have admission charges, but you don't need those to have a good time.

Shaws Garden isn't too expensive. It's a nice walk around the park, or you can ride the tram. There are indoor exhibits and there's a nice gift shop to start looking for Christmas presents.

The History Museuum is free and so is parking. There's a nice restaurant there for lunch or brunch on Sundays, another nice gift shop.

Go window shopping in Union Station.

Drive down to Kimmswick or up to Old St. Charles. Window shop in the old stores, you don't have to buy anything. Lots of inexpensive places to eat in both towns.

Look in the paper on Wednesday for the Get Out section. They have lots of things listed there.

Check the websites of the high schools and colleges to find out when they're presenting plays and musicals. The tickets for high schools tend to be $5 or $6 and you'll get a little dose of culture. During the summer there are outdoor concerts and plays all over town for free. The Journals are good resources to find things in your neighborhood.

Forest Park!
Tower Grove Park
Carondolet Park

Go ice skating when the rinks open in Brentwood, Kirkwood, Webster, South County, St. Louis Mills.

Cheap movies at the Keller on Lemay Ferry Road.

There's no reason at all to be bored in St. Louis.

There are a TON of things to do in Forest Park which are free:
Zoo, Science Center, Art Museum, & Jewel Box (if you love flowers and beautfil landscaping).

If you venture more to the downtown area you'd find Union Station, the Arch, City Museum (it's fun and not just for kids), Hodaks (an AWESOME homestyle fried chicken restaurant) & a newly restored shopping district near the river. There is a little cost involved in all of these things.

If this doesn't tickle your fancy you can also try the Magic House, the Fox Theatre, or the Lemp Mansion but I definitely wouldn't call these places cheap.

the city museum! the description i've found a lot of places makes it sound like a kid museum, but it was originally intended to be for adults. depending on how old you are, you could have a great time just walking around and exploring. it's open until midnight i think...most kids clear out around 8 or so. if i recall, it's fairly inexpensive, and you can spend a whole day there.
