Natural increase = The average rate of population growth as measured over long periods of time. It usually doesn't change much.

Fertility rate = It can change from one year or decade to the next. People may stop having as many children due to factors like economics. Some countries restrict how many children are born by limiting the number of children a couple can have. China does this to slow population growth.
