We celebrate Veterans Day to honor the men and women who have risked their lives for our country. Whether or not you agree with the policies that placed them in harms way, they volunteered to protect us at the risk of being harmed or killed. That takes a lot of guts!

Because people who fight and/or die for their country deserve recognition. Not everyone can say they have the courage to put themselves in harms way to protect their homeland. I'd be ashamed if there wasn't a vetrans day. There is already to little recognition as it is.
I find it disturbing that so many vetrans end up homeless. That is something they should never be put through.

Originally, the date 11/11/1918 was Armistice Day; at 11 am on that day, the treaty was signed ending WWI. Up until the past few decades, we celebrated that. But to honor the hundreds of thousands of men and women who have fought, been maimed, or died in service to their country - we celebrate it now as Veterans' Day. It's a good, old-fashioned, flag-waving, heart pounding day to consider all that we have as a result of their service.

in october 1156, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words:
"To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…"
Congress passed a resolution in 1926 inviting all States to observe the day a letter-writing campaign to secure the support of all state governors in the observance of this new holiday.
On June 1, 1954, the name of the holiday known as Armistice Day was changed to Veterans Day as a tribute for the nobility of all soldiers who have fought for or who are fighting for the United States. The day is set aside as a national holiday.

Let's get to the more important question. Why does this country not embrace this holiday fully? Why is it that all Veterans do not get this day off? In this time of war I think that all the Veterans should be acknowledged. .

To celebrate the lives of those that fought and/or lost their lives during war...
And on a side note. To the other people responding to his question, you don't have to be so rude! They were just asking a question. How else would they learn the answer if they don't ask!

American holiday honoring military veterans. the two a federal holiday and a state holiday in all states, it is widely known on the comparable day as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day in different aspects of the international, falling on November eleven, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended international conflict I. (significant hostilities of international conflict I have been formally ended on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice.) the holiday is regularly misprinted as Veteran's Day or Veterans' Day in calendars and classified ads.

In fairness, Veterans Day is not a day to celebrate. It is supposed to be a day to honor and remember veterans. It's supposed to be a day where we thank them for their sacrifices. And I also think it's supposed to be more for the living veterans where Memorial day is supposed to be for those who have given their lives.

If you were to go to war....lose blood, limbs or even your life....wouldn't you want to be honored for you sacrifice and hard work? If this country is good enough to honor secretaries and bosses for a day, then we definitely should honor our Veterans. Granddaughter of a Marine!

Out of respect for the people who fight and/or died to make this Country what it is today!
By even asking this question you are being very disrespectful to these people, who served America!
