I want to buy a sweater dress and I asked a question on yahoo answer if it is still in fashion. Many have replied yes, but some recomedn that I buy leggings with the dress and others have said opaque tights and I dont know what the difference is, primarily b/c I crossdress and am a little knew the different terms that apply to womens clothing

Opaque tights are see through but with color. They are thin material (nylon or other) that will rip fairly easily. They have feet and go up to your waist.
Leggings are thick, usually cotton, sometimes spandex. They don't have feet. Some go to the top of the foot, some go to the mid-ankle. They go up to your waist also

Opaque leggings would be like stockings. Leggings are tight pants. And leggings should be worn with long sweaters, sweater-dresses, or just dresses.

tights have feet, leggings are footless and can start at the ankle or calf. leggings are really in right now but are more casual. Tights would like beter if you're trying to be a bit more dressy.

Tights are like really thick, heavy pantyhose.
Leggings are like thin knit pants. Leggings would work better for you.
