Suzi spent 20% of her savings, but still had $26. How much money did she save originally

So what you want to know is this:

X = 20% + $26, With X being the unknown total of her savings

$26 is what percentage of her total?
80% because she spent 20%...100% - 20% = 80%

She has $26 so that's 80% of the total.

$26 / 80% = $32.50.

She spent 20% of that, or $32.50 * .20% = $6.50.

She has $26.00 left, and she spent $6.50 so she started out with $32.50.

I don't understand those first answers either, but when you add it up again, you prove your answer. Dollars & Cents gave you the right answer, but I wouldn't have know where the $32.50 came from.

.2 x 26 = amt. spent
amt.spent + 26 = your answer

Basically, you have to find 20% of $26.

20% = .20

$26 x .20 = $5.20

This means that she had $31.20.

$ 32.50 is your answer....take 32.5, then multiply by .80, ( her money after tking out the 20%) you'll get $26.00.

I dont know here those others learned their math....LOL
