Can someone give me some tips on being a mean character while acting? (example: voice tone, movements, etc.)

Why don't you think more about what your character hopes to gain by being mean? What's the purpose of his actions? Sometimes being mean doesn't mean being loud, it can mean whispering straight faced and staring a hole into the person you're speaking to. It's hard to nail down what you should do without knowing a lot more about your character and your dialogue.

Okay...when you think of anger think of the gesture of thrusting a knife. Let all your movements be quick and thrust like almost like you are punching something. As far as your voice screaming never works...in order to sound even more menacing dropping your voice to a deeper register works great.

Again...think of what your character is saying or what is being said to you. Why is your character so mean? Try several different things and see what works for you.

I am not your Director (who should be consulted), but:

Why are you mean? Did your mommy not love you, or are you merely constipated? What is your deal, cowboy?

How To Act Mean:

I have found that the Quiet, Deliberate and Polite mean guy is the most scary. The Shouter, while attention-getting, is a fundamentally weak chappie. It is all about intimidation.

Who is more chilling? The Shouter or the calm speaker? For me, the guy that looks at me with shark eyes and tells me my future (pain, death, etc.) is much scarier than the guy who yells at me, but does not shoot me.

C'mon......Do not sit at the edge of the bed telling me how good it is going to be. F**k me or shut up about it.

The real mean guys do not bother to explain. It is all in the attitude.

Meanness is a state of mind more than a specific action you can take. It's all going to be in the motivation of the lines you are saying. Take the words you have to speak and find a good reason why you are saying it and who it is directed to. You will find that how to say these lines will come to you as you rehearse. I hope this works for you. Break a leg!
