Many people do. I don't. I treat mine like people. And honestly, I think they think they are people. I have a cat that will only eat out of his bowl when it is placed on the table, he stands on a chair and I have to push the chair up to the table. He's a strange one but it's funny as hell.

Hello
This is a excellent question..
The only time I will talk to mine in a high pitched voice is when I come home like From Shopping or Something as I am always home with mine I rarely ever leave home as I am disabled and when I do leave it is a Rare Occasion and they will hear my truck coming from a few blocks away and they go off I can hear them when I pull in the driveway so I get threw the door and Baby talk all of them as I missed them probably more than they missed me but any other time I will talk to them like a regular person Unless they are in trouble and I will deepen My voice and use there full name and they know they are in big trouble
Funny how well they understand US and how sensitive they are to our Feelings and our Voices and our Needs
We do not give them enough Credit for there feelings and Intelligence
Again Excellent question
Respectfully Yours

People talk to their animals in that voice when that is the way they would talk to their new babies or young children when they are 'playing' ... I never used 'baby talk' with my children, and I don't use a 'high cartoon voice' with my pets, either ... but I do admit that sometimes I'll hold 'conversations' with my FISH (I have 23 of them!) and I'll say 'weird things' to my hedgehog that I would NEVER say to a person of ANY age ... but I do it in a 'low, quiet' voice, just as I spoke to my kids when they were very young.

This habit actually comes from how you were raised as a little baby/kid. Since people talked to you that way when you were a child, then it kind of gets programmed into your brain that talking in a cartoonish voice is how you are supposed to talk to cute things. In this case, the cute things are animals and yes i talk to animals that way too.

I have different voices for my different animals, and different pet names I call them.
I do the voices partly because it is just natural to do it and partly because they then know who I am talking to as soon as I speak!
Personally, I think animals respond far more positively to the high pitched tone, as do babies, although I don't know why that is?!

because we have to talk in a regular voice to regular people all day, so when you love your animals you get a little more affection and cutsie in your voice.
Plus, I also think it subconsciously has to do with their size. Because they are small, we automatically talk to them in a smaller voice. Just like kids.
Plus animals, especially dogs, especially my dogs, get all the more excited when they hear higher pitched voices. It's like they know you're talking just to them. My dog will ignore everything I say if I'm in normal voice, but if I speak in a squeakier, higher voice when I'm not even looking at him, he knows I'm speaking to him.

I think it is a natural thing to do. My cockatiel responds better to high pitched tones and sings back. Higher pitched noises seem to get my dog's and cat's attention quicker, as well. A very interesting question.

Probably because they are thinking that it is their baby.... its a pet- you love it and care for it like a baby/child but it isnt a child or a baby so what people have to realize is that 1- its an animal and 2- they dont understand you..... ha ha haa aha- seriously though; i think its because people think its their kid

Since animals don't have hands and they're not in the wild, humans take care of their pets like babies. Many people treat their pet as their animal baby.
