Of course it sounds better to you; you are used to that name.
Supposedly fans down there are still upset by having "Devil" in the name.

They pretty much have to keep the name Tampa Bay rather than just Tampa as they actually play in St. Petersburg across the bay. There is a big rivalry between the two cities; they would be insane to chose just one city's name.

It sure will not hurt them to change it. Maybe this will attract new fans. It will also create a new market for their souvenirs and sports apparel.

The Rays management should be putting some effort in finding players to help the team instead of making a big deal about a new logo and a new name. Will the new logo and name bring more people to watch the team? Probably not. Players bring people to the stands, not a name or logo.

Spend some money Rays management. You picked up Kurt Birkins and Chris Snelling. Do you really think those guys will make an impact or will you keep saying to be patient to Tampa Bay fans and continue to put up losing seasons year after year after year?

Originally, the choice was between Sting Rays and Devil Rays.
The choice Devil Rays seemed unfortunate then, it still does now. Sun Rays? Tampa, many moons ago, was known as the Smokers, and the Tarpons (a very popular game fish). This was in harmony with Miami being known as the Marlins (also a very popular game fish).

It should be Tampa Devil Rays. Just like Chip said, dump Bay. Technically they should be named St. Petersburg Devil Rays.

Tampa Bay Rays is a pansy name. They will always be the Tampa Devil Rays to me.

Rays is all right. Diamondbacks. Why not Diamonds? Lots you could do symbolically with that one. California Angels. Let it go at that. Stop trying to put Anaheim on the map.

In short, shorten some of these long monikers. The Expos are the Nationals now, well, at least sort of, so maybe the Astros could pick up a real name, too.

Rays or Devils. Not both.

I agree the old name sounded better, but at least it's still a plural noun. I hate names like the Heat, or the Magic. One player is a Ray, or a Dodger, or a Yankee. Two or more are Rays, Dodgers, or Yankees. What is one Heat, a Heat? I guest one member of the Red Sox would be a Red Sock?

I still like traditional ways better, most of the time.

It is awesome. They should not have had the word devil in their name to begin with. You hear all of the PC Bull about American Indian names, but no one ever talks about it being offensive to have the devil in a name. Great job by Tampa Bay!!
